Documents: optional, and what to do when we ask for one

Documents never hold up your claim. What helps, how to add them from your phone, and what to do when your specialist asks for one.

Documents are not a step you have to finish before you submit. Adding them is optional, and it never holds up your claim. If your specialist needs something specific, they ask for it and you add it then.

What helps

Adding your contract and a payslip helps us finish your claim faster.

  • Your contract shows what your employer pays for and where you have to work.

  • A payslip shows you were not paid back for what you spent.

You can also add a P60, a P11D, a bank statement, or anything else, for example receipts for tools, uniform, training, parking or hotels. If you do not have your contract, a written statement of your employment terms, an offer letter setting out your duties, or a letter from your employer confirming your role and sites will usually help too. Ask us if you are unsure.

Where to add them

On your Home screen, tap Add documents (before you submit) or Documents (after you submit). The web address is app.taxpro.co.uk/claims/<your claim>/documents. Tap Add a document, choose what it is and which employer it is for, then add the photo or file. One at a time; you can add more after.

When we ask for one

If your specialist needs a particular document, for example a payslip from one employer, you see it on your Home screen as "<name> asked for your ...". Tap Add it now. A photo of the right page is usually enough.

How to take a good photo

A clear photo on your phone is fine. You do not need a scanner. Lay the page flat, with all four corners in shot and no glare. JPG, PNG, HEIC and PDF all work, up to 20MB per file.

After review starts

You can add documents before you submit and while our accountant is reviewing your claim. Once your claim is approved, the documents screen is locked. If you need to send something after that, message us and it goes on your file.
