This is task 3 of 5 on your Home screen. It imports your employment history, your pay and tax for the claim years in one go, so you do not need a P60 or old payslips.
Where to find it
On your Home screen, tap Connect HMRC. The web address is app.taxpro.co.uk/claims/<your claim>/hmrc.
How to connect
Tap Connect to HMRC. HMRC opens in a new tab.
Log in with your Government Gateway.
Approve TaxPro as your agent, then come back.
You log in on HMRC's own site and we never see your password. Approving us makes TaxPro your authorised agent, which lets us read your pay and tax record and file for you.
How long it takes
HMRC confirms most connections within a few minutes. Some take longer. You can carry on with your other tasks, and we text you when it is done. Your HMRC link stays open for 21 days. Once HMRC says yes, the import usually takes under an hour.
If something is missing or wrong
Your jobs come straight from your HMRC record and cannot be edited in the app, because HMRC's record is what gets filed. If a job is missing or wrong, message your specialist and we raise it with HMRC for you.
If it will not connect
"HMRC connection failed": HMRC could not match your date of birth and National Insurance number. Tap Fix my details, check them against your NI card or a payslip, and try again.
"HMRC is not responding": HMRC's service did not answer. Your details are fine. Try again in a few minutes.
Your link has expired: start the task again.
You cannot use Government Gateway: tap I cannot use Government Gateway and we sort the connection with you.
HMRC will not let you sign in: you need a personal Government Gateway account, not a business or agent one. You can create one at gov.uk/personal-tax-account.
How you know it is done
The task shows as done once your jobs are in. You see "Your jobs, from HMRC" and the button Continue to travel.
