Can I use someone else’s account for my refund?

It’s strongly recommended to use your own personal bank account.

Written by Kiyarah

HMRC requires that refunds go to the taxpayer’s own bank account. Using someone else’s (e.g. family member or friend) can:

  • Delay your payment

  • Raise security or identity verification issues

  • Result in HMRC withholding your refund
