How long does it take to get a Tax Rebate

A UK tax rebate through TaxPro usually completes in around 5 to 8 weeks, and you're paid within 2 to 3 working days of HMRC releasing the refund. Here's the full timeline.

A UK tax rebate claimed through TaxPro usually completes in around 5 to 8 weeks from starting your claim to the money reaching your bank.

What the time is spent on

  • Your part (as quick as one day). Answer the questions, sign digitally, connect securely to HMRC and add your expenses. Everything happens online at app.taxpro.co.uk.

  • HMRC set-up by post (first-time claimants). If you've not claimed before, HMRC posts you letters containing reference numbers to enter in your account. Letters arrive in plain envelopes over days to weeks — the faster you enter the numbers, the faster everything moves. This is the single biggest factor in how fast you get paid, and where most of the calendar time goes. 📬

  • Your estimate. Our tax team reviews your records and expenses and sends a personal estimate showing your take-home figure. Nothing is submitted until you approve it.

  • HMRC processing: typically 1 to 3 weeks after we submit, occasionally longer in HMRC's busy periods (January and early April).

  • Payout: 2 to 3 working days. Once HMRC releases your refund, we transfer your money — fee already deducted, no invoices, no surprises. You'll get an email and text the moment it's sent. 💷

Claimed before?

Repeat claims skip the postal set-up entirely and are much quicker, which is why many clients claim again each new tax year from 6 April.

Three ways to speed yours up

  1. Open post from HMRC immediately and enter the numbers the same day.

  2. Approve your estimate as soon as it arrives.

  3. Add your bank details early so payout is instant when the time comes.
